The Witches' Boss Appears (Act 3, Scene 5)
You're about to meet Hecate, the ultimate boss of all witches, and she's absolutely fuming! The three witches have been meddling with Macbeth without her permission, and she's not having it.
Hecate's anger reveals something crucial about the supernatural world in Macbeth. She calls Macbeth a "wayward son" who only loves himself, not the witches who've been helping him. This shows us that Macbeth isn't some chosen hero - he's just a selfish man being manipulated.
The real plot twist comes when Hecate announces her master plan. She's going to create artificial sprites (fake spirits) to deceive Macbeth even further. Her goal? To make him "spurn fate, scorn death" and become dangerously overconfident.

Now we shift to the human world, where Lennox is having a very dangerous conversation with another lord. He's becoming suspicious about all the convenient deaths surrounding Macbeth's rise to power.
Lennox uses heavy dramatic irony when he sarcastically praises Macbeth's actions. When he says "Was not that nobly done?" about Macbeth killing Duncan's guards, he's actually suggesting the opposite. This technique shows Shakespeare's genius at revealing character thoughts without stating them directly.
The political situation is unravelling fast. Malcolm and Donalbain fled after their father's murder, but Lennox questions whether they're really guilty. His sarcastic tone when discussing how "monstrous" it would be for sons to kill their father suggests he knows the real truth.
