The Littluns are the younger boys who remain vulnerable throughout the story. They spend time playing in the water but live in constant fear of the "beastie." The boy with the mulberry birthmark becomes one of the first casualties, symbolising the loss of innocence.
The Hunters transform from Jack's former choir members into a savage tribe. They maintain loyalty to Jack and demonstrate mob mentality, showing how group dynamics can override individual moral judgement. Their black caps and choir uniforms gradually give way to face paint and primitive behaviour.
