Literature Tips for Top Marks

Author references are your secret weapon for higher grades. Start each paragraph by naming the writer and end by explaining their deeper message. For example, Shakespeare doesn't just show Lord Capulet being protective - he's revealing how quickly male affection can turn violent in a patriarchal society.

When you're analysing quotes, always dig deeper than surface meaning. Pick out specific language devices or explore what individual words suggest to readers. If Priestley uses a triplet like 'fire and blood and anguish', he's deliberately warning both characters and audiences about war's horrors. Don't know the exact technique? Just use 'Metaphorically' to start your analysis - it works brilliantly for comparisons like Dickens linking Scrooge to an oyster.

Embedding quotes smoothly makes your writing flow naturally. Never write clunky phrases like 'a quote to show this is'. Instead, weave quotes into sentences: 'We see this when Scrooge tells the gentlemen to "decrease the surplus population"' sounds much more sophisticated.

Top Tip: Always show you understand context - mention who said the quote, when, and what situation it refers to. This proves you really know the text!

The most impressive essays trace character development by linking quotes from different parts of the text. Compare Scrooge's 'solitary as an oyster' from Stave One with 'happy as an angel' from Stave Five to show his complete transformation. Examiners also love alternative interpretations - suggest the Inspector could be either a ghostly figure or Priestley's socialist mouthpiece.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
