Snowball's Character Overview
Ever wondered what makes a good leader? Snowball shows us exactly that through his vivacious personality and genuine commitment to Animal Farm's success. Orwell describes him as "more vivacious than Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive," making him the pig who actually cares about improving everyone's lives.
Snowball's bravery shines through during the Battle of the Cowshed, where he fights fearlessly against the humans. The text shows him dashing "straight for Jones" even when facing a gun - talk about putting your money where your mouth is! His courage earns him the "Animal Hero, First Class" award.
Unfortunately, Snowball's good intentions make Napoleon jealous. Napoleon uses his guard dogs to chase Snowball away from the farm, then turns him into a convenient scapegoat for everything that goes wrong afterwards.
Key Point: Snowball represents what the revolution could have been - focused on education, better working conditions, and genuine equality for all animals.
