The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come Essay Plan
Ever wondered why the final spirit in A Christmas Carol is so much scarier than the others? Dickens deliberately makes this ghost the most frightening to deliver his strongest message about consequences and redemption.
The ghost's appearance immediately signals death and judgement. Dickens describes it as "shrouded in a deep black garment... nothing of it visible save one outstretched hand." That black cloak symbolises mourning and death, whilst the hidden face creates genuine fear of the unknown. The spirit's silence makes it even more powerful - it simply points forward, showing that fate is unavoidable.
Scrooge's bleak future serves as a warning about greed. The spirit reveals how people mock Scrooge's death, saying "it's likely to be a very cheap funeral... I don't mind going if a lunch is provided." Nobody mourns him - they actually feel pleased he's gone. This shows how his life of selfishness left no positive impact on anyone.
