Marleys ghost has come to warn Scrooge

- Marleys main role in the novel is to warm Scrooge about what wil

Jacob Marley: The Ultimate Warning

Ever wondered what happens when you spend your whole life being selfish? Jacob Marley is Dickens' answer to that question, and it's not pretty! Marley's ghost appears to warn Scrooge about the horrific fate waiting for him unless he changes his ways.

What makes Marley such an effective warning is how similar he and Scrooge actually are. Dickens describes them as "two kindred spirits" - both obsessed with money and completely indifferent to other people's suffering. Scrooge even lives in Marley's old flat and sometimes answers to Marley's name, showing just how interchangeable these two misers have become.

Marley's punishment perfectly fits his crime - he's condemned to wander the earth in chains made of cash boxes, keys, and ledgers. These represent all the times he chose money over human kindness. The really chilling bit? Marley tells Scrooge that his own chain is even longer and heavier.

The ghost's appearance is deliberately disturbing - from his "death cold eyes" to his jaw that drops grotesquely when he removes his bandage. Dickens surrounds Marley with hellish imagery, describing clothes that seem heated by "hot vapour from an oven" and an overall "infernal" atmosphere.

Key Point: Marley represents what Scrooge will become if he doesn't change - making his warning both personal and terrifying.

Despite his own hopeless situation, Marley shows genuine care for his old partner. He's watched over Scrooge "many a day" and has somehow arranged this final chance for redemption. It's actually quite touching - Marley can't save himself, but he's determined to save his friend from the same eternal suffering.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
