Questions 1-3: Reading and Analysis Skills

Question 1 is your warm-up - spend just 2-4 minutes reading the source, then tackle the straightforward statements. It's designed to ease you into the paper, so don't overthink it!

For Question 2 (10 minutes), you're making inferences - reading between the lines. Use comparison words like "similarly," "however," or "contrasted by" to show relationships between ideas. Make 2-3 solid comparisons using embedded quotes to support your points.

Question 3 gives you 15-17 minutes to analyse language techniques properly. Start by identifying 3-5 key words around the topic, then build your paragraphs around them. For each point, identify the technique, provide evidence, then analyse how it creates meaning.

Top Tip: Don't just spot techniques - explain how they work and why the writer chose them. This analytical depth is what separates good answers from great ones.

Questions 4-5: Comparison and Creative Writing

Question 4 (30 minutes) asks you to compare how sources present different perspectives. Pick either similarities OR differences - never try to do both! Focus on the writers' methods and dig deep into how techniques contribute to the overall meaning.

Question 5 is your big writing task (50 minutes). This is where you show off your own writing skills by considering audience and style. Connect to wider topics like society, politics, or economics rather than stating obvious points.

Structure your argument with 3-4 main points, using the "Rule of 3" technique throughout. Plan your punctuation carefully - mix short, punchy sentences with complex ones. Include a counter-argument but dismiss it quickly to strengthen your main position.

Remember: Use high-level vocabulary and structural devices like repetition, rhetorical questions, and direct address to engage your reader. Your conclusion should circle back to reinforce your key message.
