GCSE AQA English Language Questions 1 to 4 Structure and Information

English Language Paper 2 Exam Strategy
The English Language Paper 2 exam tests your ability to analyse and compare non-fiction texts. Each question requires a different approach, so understanding what examiners want is crucial to your success.
For Question 1 (4 marks), read the statements carefully before examining the extract. Select the four statements that are true - this is purely about accurate identification, not analysis. Don't overthink this section, but don't rush it either.
In Question 2 (8 marks), you'll compare two sources and their attitudes toward a topic. Look for both similarities and differences, supporting your points with embedded quotes. This is a language analysis question, so identify techniques like adjectives, verbs, abstract nouns, metaphors and personification.
Pro tip: Don't leave Question 2 until last - many students make this mistake and run out of time. Structure your comparison by discussing both texts A and B in each paragraph, repeating this pattern 2-3 times.
For Question 3 (12 marks), you'll analyse how a writer uses language to create effects. Use the PETA format (Point, Evidence, Technique, Analysis) and zoom in on specific words. Dedicate one paragraph to language and one to structure. When examining structure, consider elements like format, narrative techniques and tone of voice.
Question 4 (16 marks) requires comparing writers' methods and perspectives. Compare both texts in depth, using detailed analysis to show how techniques help present viewpoints. Structure your answer with alternating points about each text, using embedded quotes for support.
Remember your timings: Reading (5 mins), Q1 (5 mins), Q2 (10 mins), Q3 (15 mins), Q4 (25 mins), Q5 (45 mins) - totalling 105 minutes to complete the paper.

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
