Reading Section Questions 1-5
Question 1 is your easiest 5 marks - just list five things explicitly mentioned in the text. Always write 6 answers though, just in case one's wrong!
Question 2 asks for impressions the writer creates. You need to give an impression plus a quote, then explain it using evidence, inference, and connectives. Aim for 4-5 pieces of evidence and keep your explanations snappy.
Question 3 focuses on character development and requires 7-8 pieces of evidence. Structure each point as: how the character changed, evidence from the text, explanation, then how the writer shows this change through their techniques.
Quick Tip: In Questions 3 and 4, always explain HOW the writer creates the effect, not just WHAT the effect is!
Question 4 explores the narrator's thoughts and feelings using the same structure as Question 3. Point, evidence, explanation, writer's method - and remember to write about 7-8 pieces of evidence.
Question 5 gives you a statement to evaluate. Write for and against the statement with evidence, but conclude with one clear viewpoint. This shows sophisticated analysis skills.
