The Economic Problem

The core of economics stems from a simple reality: people have unlimited wants but must deal with scarce resources. This mismatch creates the economic problem, forcing everyone to make choices about how to use what's available. When you choose one thing, you inevitably give up something else.

Economic activity aims to satisfy society's wants and needs by answering three critical questions: what to produce, how to produce it, and who to produce it for. These questions aren't just theoretical—they affect everyday decisions made by consumers, businesses and governments.

Resources come in two main types: renewable resources like trees that can be replenished, and non-renewable resources like oil that exist in finite supply and will eventually run out. Understanding this distinction helps us make better decisions about resource use.
