Basic Economic Problem
Ever wondered why you can't buy everything you want? Welcome to economics! The basic economic problem exists because we have unlimited wants but only limited resources to satisfy them.
There are four main factors of production that create everything around you. Capital includes man-made tools like factories and tractors. Enterprise refers to innovative people who take risks to make profit. Land covers all natural resources where goods can be produced or extracted. Finally, Labour represents human workers who actually get things done.
Since resources are limited, societies must make three crucial choices. What to produce depends on consumer demand - businesses won't make things nobody wants. How to produce focuses on cost-effectiveness - companies choose the cheapest methods. For whom to produce targets people with enough income to actually buy the products.
Key Concept: Every choice has a cost! Opportunity cost is the value of the next best alternative you give up when making a decision.

Production Possibility Frontiers
Production Possibility Frontiers (PPFs) are brilliant graphs that show exactly what an economy can achieve with its available resources. Think of them as showing the maximum possible output when you're being as efficient as possible.
These curves demonstrate two key points about production. First, they show the maximum possible production of two goods or services using all available factors of production. Second, they reveal the various combinations of these goods that can be produced efficiently.
The trade-off is clear: producing more laptops means making fewer tablets, and vice versa. This perfectly illustrates opportunity cost in action - you can see exactly what you're giving up to get more of something else.
Efficiency Check: Any point inside the PPF curve represents productive inefficiency - you're wasting factors of production and could be doing much better!
