Magnets and Magnetic Fields
Picture invisible lines flowing around every magnet - that's exactly what magnetic field lines are! These lines always flow from the North pole to the South pole, and they never cross each other.
The poles are where all the action happens. Here, the magnetic force is strongest because the field lines bunch together most tightly.
Permanent magnets stay magnetic all the time and pack more punch than induced magnets. Induced magnets only become magnetic when they're near a permanent magnet - move them away and they lose their magnetism completely.
Quick Tip: The closer together the field lines are drawn, the stronger the magnetic field in that area!

Current Creates Magnetism
Here's where things get brilliant - electricity flowing through a wire creates its own circular magnetic field around it! You can work out which direction this field goes using the right-hand grip rule.
Point your right thumb in the direction the current flows, then curl your fingers. Your fingers show the direction of the magnetic field - simple as that!
Want a stronger magnetic field? Increase the current or get closer to the wire. Solenoids take this idea further by coiling wire into loops, making all those circular fields line up and work together.
A solenoid basically becomes a temporary bar magnet with North and South poles. The magnetic field inside the coil is incredibly strong because all those individual wire fields combine their power.
Remember: Solenoids are just coiled wires that create much stronger magnetic fields than single straight wires!
