Das Energiestufenmodell in der Atomphysik
Das Energiestufenmodell ist eine Erweiterung des Kern-Hülle-Modells nach Rutherford und bietet eine detailliertere Darstellung der Atomstruktur. Es unterteilt die Atomhülle in verschiedene Energiestufen, was zu einem tieferen Verständnis des atomaren Aufbaus führt.
Definition: Das Energiestufenmodell beschreibt den Aufbau eines Atoms mit Untergliederung der Atomhüllen in Energiestufen.
Der Atomkern bildet das Zentrum des Atoms und ist relativ klein, aber massereich und positiv geladen. Im Gegensatz dazu ist die Atomhülle relativ groß, fast masselos und negativ geladen. Das Größenverhältnis zwischen Kern und Hülle beträgt etwa 1:1.000.000.

Die Anzahl der Energiestufen und ihre Besetzung mit Elektronen lassen sich aus dem Periodensystem ablesen:
- K-Schale (1. Schale): maximal 2 Elektronen
- L-Schale (2. Schale): maximal 8 Elektronen
- M-Schale (3. Schale): maximal 18 Elektronen
- N-Schale (4. Schale): maximal 32 Elektronen
- O-Schale (5. Schale): maximal 50 Elektronen
Example: Für ein Magnesium-Atom mit der Ordnungszahl 12 im Periodensystem bedeutet dies: 12 Protonen im Atomkern und 12 Elektronen in der Atomhülle.
Die Periodennummer im Periodensystem gibt Auskunft über die Anzahl der Energiestufen. Mit jeder weiteren Reihe im Periodensystem nimmt die Anzahl der Energiestufen um 1 zu.
Vocabulary: Valenzelektronen (VE) sind die Elektronen auf der äußersten Schale eines Atoms.
