What makes membranes brilliant is their fluid mosaic structure. Picture a flexible double layer of phospholipids (the 'fluid' bit) with various proteins scattered throughout like tiles in a mosaic (the 'mosaic' bit). This structure gives membranes their flexibility whilst maintaining their selective properties.

Inside your cells, membranes around organelles create separate compartments, making cellular processes way more efficient. They can even form little transport bubbles called vesicles to move substances around - think of them as the cell's internal delivery service!
