Your heart is basically a powerful pump that never stops...
Blood Circulation in the Heart and Its Structures

The Heart's Structure and Blood Flow
Think of your heart as having four main chambers - two on top called atria and two on bottom called ventricles. The right side handles deoxygenated blood (blood that needs oxygen), whilst the left side deals with oxygenated blood (blood fresh with oxygen from your lungs).
Blood enters your heart through two major veins: the superior vena cava (from your upper body) and inferior vena cava (from your lower body). These dump deoxygenated blood into the right atrium. Your heart also has a built-in pacemaker that controls the rhythm - pretty clever, right?
The tricuspid valve acts like a one-way door between the right atrium and right ventricle. When your heart contracts, blood gets pushed through the pulmonary valve into the pulmonary artery, which carries it straight to your lungs for a fresh oxygen top-up.
Key Point: The right side of your heart only deals with deoxygenated blood - it's like the "dirty" side that sends blood to the lungs for cleaning!
Once your blood picks up oxygen in the lungs, it returns through pulmonary veins to the left atrium. From there, it passes into the powerful left ventricle and gets pumped out through the aorta to supply your entire body with oxygen-rich blood.
