Basic Power and Control Components
Cells and batteries are the heartbeat of any circuit - they create the electricity that powers everything else. A cell generates electricity on its own, whilst a battery contains multiple cells working together as a power source. Voltage rails distribute this power throughout your circuit like motorways carrying traffic.
Switches give you control over when electricity flows. A push-to-make switch completes the circuit when you press it (like a doorbell), whilst a push-to-break switch does the opposite - it stops the current when pushed. More advanced switches like single-pole single-throw can go in one direction (open or closed), and single-pole double-throw switches can redirect current between two different circuits.
Resistors are the traffic controllers of electronics - they create resistance against electric current to protect other components. A variable resistor lets you adjust this resistance, giving you precise control over how much current flows through your circuit.
