Nerve Cells and Communication

Think of nerve cells (neurons) as your body's biological version of electrical wires. They're specially adapted to carry electrical impulses from one point to another, which is exactly how your nervous system coordinates all your behaviour and helps you respond to your surroundings.

Neurons come in loads of different types, but they all share some key features. They have lots of branched connections that let them pass messages to other nerve cells - a bit like a complex telephone network where everyone's connected to everyone else.

Here's where it gets interesting: when an electrical impulse reaches the end of a nerve cell, it can't just jump to the next one. Instead, it releases chemicals that diffuse across a tiny gap called a synapse. These chemicals trigger a new electrical impulse in the next neuron, and the message continues its journey.

Key Point: Synapses are crucial connection points where electrical signals temporarily become chemical signals to cross the gap between neurons.

Central Nervous System and Reflex Actions

Your central nervous system (CNS) - made up of your brain and spinal cord - is mission control for your entire body. It receives information through sensory neurones that detect changes like temperature shifts or CO2 levels in your blood, then decides what action to take.

Once your CNS makes a decision, it sends impulses back through motor neurones to effectors (your muscles and glands). This three-part system of sensory → CNS → motor neurones handles most of your body's responses.

Reflex arcs are your body's emergency response system - they create rapid, automatic movements like yanking your hand away from a hot pan. The pathway goes: stimulus detected by receptor → sensory neuron → spinal cord → relay neurone → motor neurone → effector muscle contracts.

Remember: Reflexes are so fast because they bypass your brain entirely - the decision happens in your spinal cord, saving precious milliseconds that could prevent injury.

I know a lot of apps use fake accounts to boost their reviews but this app deserves it all. Originally I was getting 4 in my English exams and this time I got a grade 7. I didn’t even know about this app three days until the exam and it has helped A LOT. Please actually trust me and use it as I’m sure you too will see developments.
