the dna is spread out into long strings, the cell has to grow and increase the amount of subcellular structures before it can divide. It then duplicates its DNA so there's one copy for each new cell. the dna is copied and forms X-shaped chromosomes. each arm is exactly the same as the others.

it produces 2 new daughter cells, they're identical and contain the exact same dna. their dna is also identical to the parent cell.

Why are some people against stem cell research? 

stem cells grown in the lab could become contaminated with a virus and passed on to the patient and make them sicker.

what are the risks involved in using stem cells in medicine?

stem cells transferred from the bone marrow of a healthy person can replace faulty blood cells in a patient. Embryonic stem cells can also be used to replace faulty cells, you could also make insulin producing cells for people with diabetes, nerve cells for people paralysed by spinal injuries. therapeutic cloning, means the cells won't be rejected from the patients body when replacing faulty cells.

how can stem cells be used to cure diseases? 

then can be used to produce clones of whole plants quickly and cheaply, can be used to grow more plants of rare species. can also be used to grow crops of intentional plants that have desired features for farmers, for example, disease resistance.
