Cell Structures and Specialised Cells
Cells are the building blocks of life, each with structures that help them perform specific functions. Animal cells contain organelles like the nucleus (control center), cell membrane (controls movement of substances), and mitochondria (the "powerhouse" that releases energy during respiration). Plant cells have these too, plus extras like a cell wall, chloroplasts, and a permanent vacuole.
Different cells have special adaptations for their jobs. Red blood cells have no nucleus to make room for more haemoglobin, are small and flexible to squeeze through narrow capillaries, and have a biconcave shape for maximum oxygen absorption. Root hair cells are adapted for efficiently taking up water and minerals from soil. Sperm cells have a tail for movement, lots of mitochondria for energy, and an acrosome that releases enzymes to help fertilise an egg.
Nerve cells (neurons) are adapted to carry electrical impulses throughout the body. Even single-celled organisms like bacteria and yeast have special features - bacteria lack a nucleus but have plasmids, while yeast cells have vacuoles like plant cells do. When examining cells, we use microscope slides prepared with stains like iodine or methylene blue to make structures visible.
Did you know? Electron microscopes provide much higher magnification and resolution than light microscopes because electron waves have a much shorter wavelength than visible light. This allows scientists to see tiny cellular structures in amazing detail!

This apps acc the goat. I find revision so boring but this app makes it so easy to organize it all and then you can ask the freeeee ai to test yourself so good and you can easily upload your own stuff. highly recommend as someone taking mocks now
