Animal, Plant and Bacterial Cells

Animal cells are like tiny factories with different parts doing specific jobs. The cell membrane acts like a security guard, controlling what goes in and out of the cell. Think of the nucleus as the boss - it controls all the cell's activities and stores the chromosomes that contain your DNA.

Inside the cell, ribosomes work like protein-making machines, whilst mitochondria are the powerhouses that produce energy through aerobic respiration. All of this happens in the cytoplasm, a jelly-like substance where most chemical reactions take place.

Plant cells contain everything that animal cells have, plus three extra bits that make them special. The permanent vacuole is like a water storage tank that helps keep the plant firm. Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll, the green stuff that captures sunlight for photosynthesis. The tough cell wall made of cellulose acts like armour, giving the plant extra strength and protection.

Bacterial cells are much simpler but still fascinating. They have ribosomes for protein synthesis and cytoplasm like other cells. However, they also have plasmids (small rings of DNA) and flagella - whip-like structures that help them swim around. They're surrounded by both a cell wall and cell membrane for protection.
