Savci - Základní informace
Savci (vědecky Mammalia) tvoří skupinu obratlovců, která je všude kolem nás. Jejich název pochází od schopnosti samic kojit mláďata mateřským mlékem. Rodí živá mláďata a věnují jim velkou péči.
Na savce narazíš každý den - patří mezi ně psi, kočky a také my, lidé! Najdeš je ale i ve vodě (velryby, delfíni) nebo na polích a v lesích (zajíci, myši, koně).
Zajímavost: Ačkoliv si představíš savce jako suchozemská zvířata, patří mezi ně i vodní tvorové jako velryby a delfíni, kteří se do vodního prostředí vrátili během evoluce.
Savci jsou nesmírně různorodá skupina s obrovským rozpětím velikostí - od drobných rejsků až po obří velryby. Všichni ale sdílejí několik základních znaků, které se dozvíš na další stránce.
Hlavní znaky a odlišnosti savců
Savce poznáš podle několika důležitých vlastností. Jsou teplokrevní, což znamená, že udržují stálou tělesnou teplotu bez ohledu na okolí. Jejich tělo obvykle pokrývá srst (i když třeba velryby ji časem ztratily). Mají také čtyři končetiny a rty, které mláďatům umožňují sání mléka.
Nejcharakterističtějším znakem savců je kojení mláďat. Samice mají mléčné žlázy, které produkují mléko - dokonalou výživu pro rostoucí mláďata. Je to vlastnost, kterou nenajdeš u žádné jiné skupiny zvířat!
Další výjimečnou vlastností je živorodost - savci rodí živá, vyvinutá mláďata místo kladení vajec. Existuje sice malá skupina výjimek (ptakořitní jako například ptakopysk), ale drtivá většina savců přivádí na svět živá mláďata, která se vyvíjejí v těle matky.
Věděl jsi? Savci investují do svých mláďat mnohem více energie a času než většina ostatních zvířat. Tato péče začíná už během vývoje v těle matky a pokračuje dlouho po narození.
Savci se také vyznačují intenzivní péčí o potomstvo. Zatímco mnohá zvířata se o své potomky příliš nestarají, savci je chrání, krmí a učí je důležitým dovednostem pro přežití.
