La replicación del ADN es el proceso donde una molécula de ADN se duplica para crear dos copias idénticas. Imagínate que tienes que hacer una copia de seguridad perfecta de todos tus archivos más importantes: eso es lo que hacen tus células constantemente.
El proceso es semiconservativo, lo que significa que cada nueva molécula de ADN tiene una hebra original (la "vieja") y una hebra completamente nueva. Es como si renovaras solo la mitad de tu armario pero conservaras la otra mitad.
Los elementos clave que necesitas conocer son: el origen de replicación (donde empieza todo), la horquilla de replicación (la estructura en Y donde ocurre la acción), y los cebadores (pequeñas cadenas de ARN necesarias para empezar). Aquí es donde brillan las topoisomerasas (como la ADN girasa), que actúan como tijeras moleculares cortando y volviendo a unir el ADN para liberar esa tensión. Mientras tanto, las proteínas SSB se pegan a las hebras separadas para evitar que se vuelvan a juntar.

La ADN polimerasa III es la estrella del show, añadiendo nucleótidos siguiendo la regla de complementariedad (A con T, G con C). Pero como las hebras son antiparalelas, la síntesis funciona de forma diferente en cada una.
En la hebra conductora, la síntesis es continua y sencilla, siguiendo a la horquilla. Pero en la hebra retardada, la cosa se complica: tiene que sintetizarse en trozos llamados fragmentos de Okazaki, cada uno con su propio cebador.
La energía para todo esto viene de la hidrólisis de los dNTPs (desoxirribonucleótidos trifosfato). Es como si cada nucleótido trajera su propia batería para poder unirse.
💡 Truco de memoria: Piensa en la hebra retardada como escribir tu nombre al revés mientras caminas hacia adelante. ¡No es que sea más lenta, es que tiene que trabajar de forma más complicada!

En eucariotas, el problema de replicar los extremos (telómeros) se resuelve con la telomerasa.
