植物の体のつくりと働き
植物の体は人間と同じように、それぞれのパーツが特別な仕事をしているよ。まず葉緑体は植物の細胞にある緑色の粒で、光合成という超重要な作業を担当している。この葉緑体の中には葉緑素という緑色の色素が入っていて、これが植物を緑色に見せているんだ。
葉っぱの表面には気孔という小さな穴がある。ここから二酸化炭素を吸い込んで、酸素や水蒸気を外に出している。まるで植物の鼻みたいな働きをしているね。
根っこには根毛という細い毛がびっしり生えている。これで土の中から水や養分をグングン吸い上げるんだ。茎の中には道管と師管という2つの重要な管がある。道管は根から吸った水を葉まで運び、師管は葉で作った栄養を植物全体に配達する役割を持っている。
光合成は植物だけができる特別な能力で、光のエネルギーを使って二酸化炭素と水からデンプンと酸素を作り出す。一方、呼吸は人間と同じで、酸素を使って栄養を分解してエネルギーを得ている。蒸散は葉っぱから水蒸気を出すことで、体温調節や水分の吸収を助けているよ。
覚えておこう！ 植物は光合成で酸素を作り出すけど、呼吸でも酸素を使っている。昼は光合成が活発で酸素を多く作り、夜は呼吸だけになるんだ。
植物は種子植物とシダ植物に分けられるけど、今回は種子植物に注目しよう。種子植物は被子植物（種子が果実に包まれている）と裸子植物（種子がむき出し）に分かれる。被子植物はさらに双子葉類（発芽時に2枚の葉）と単子葉類（発芽時に1枚の葉）に分類される。双子葉類は茎の中の維管束が輪状に並び、単子葉類は散らばって配置されているのが特徴だよ。
