不定詞と動名詞の使い分け

不定詞(to +動詞の原形) と動名詞(動詞のing形)は、どちらも「~するこ
と」と訳せることが多くて、文の中で名詞のような働きをする。でも、動詞によ
って後ろにどちらが来るか決まっていたり、意味が変わったりするので、その

不定詞と動名詞の基本的な違い

**不定詞（to + 動詞の原形）**は「未来志向」のイメージを持ってる。これからやりたいことや、まだ実現していないことを表すことが多いんだ。例えば「I want to visit Kyoto.」は、これから京都に行きたいという気持ちを表してるよね。

一方、**動名詞（動詞のing形）**は「過去志向・反復・事実」のイメージ。すでにやったことや、習慣的にしていること、一般的な事実を指すことが多い。「I enjoy watching movies.」なら、映画を観るという行為そのものを楽しんでいるってことだ。

この「未来志向」と「過去志向」のイメージを覚えておけば、どの動詞がどちらを好むかが理解しやすくなるよ。覚えることは多いけど、パターンが見えてくれば大丈夫！

不定詞だけをとる動詞と動名詞だけをとる動詞

不定詞（to do）のみをとる動詞は、未来のことや意志・決意を表すものが多い。want to do（〜したい）、decide to do（〜すると決める）、promise to do（〜すると約束する）、plan to do（〜する計画を立てる）などがその代表例だ。

動名詞（doing）のみをとる動詞は、反復・中断・完了・回避などを表すものが中心。enjoy doing（〜して楽しむ）、finish doing（〜し終える）、stop doing（〜するのをやめる）、avoid doing（〜するのを避ける）などは絶対に覚えておこう。

「Would you mind opening the window?」のように、mind doingは「〜するのを嫌がる」という意味で、丁寧な依頼でよく使われるから要チェックだ。

💡 ポイント: enjoy, finish, stopなどの頻出動詞は動名詞とセットで覚えよう！

意味が変わる重要な動詞

ここがテストで一番狙われるポイント！remember, forget, try, stopは不定詞と動名詞で意味が大きく変わるんだ。

remember to doは「これから〜することを覚えている」、remember doingは「過去に〜したことを覚えている」。「Remember to lock the door.」（ドアに鍵をかけるのを忘れないで）と「I remember seeing him before.」（以前彼に会ったのを覚えてる）では全然違うよね。

try to doは「〜しようと努力する」、try doingは「試しに〜してみる」。前者は頑張ったけどできなかった場合が多く、後者は実際にやってみたという意味になる。

stop to doは「〜するために立ち止まる」（目的）、stop doingは「〜することをやめる」（中断）。この違いは文の構造も違うから特に注意が必要だ。

💡 ポイント: remember, forget, try, stopは例文とセットで覚えると間違えない！

実践問題で理解を深めよう

実際の問題を解いてみよう。「()にstudyを適切な形で入れる」問題で考え方をチェックだ。

「I hope () abroad in the future.」なら、hopeは未来志向の動詞だからto studyが正解。「My brother gave up () to be a doctor.」は、give upが動名詞をとる動詞なのでstudyingになる。

「Please remember () for the test tomorrow.」は「明日の」テストのために「これから」勉強することだからto study。「I remember () with him last year.」は「去年」という過去のことを覚えているからstudyingが答えだ。

このように、動詞の性質と時制のイメージを組み合わせて考えれば、迷わずに答えが出せるようになるよ。

💡 ポイント: 時を表す語句（tomorrow, last year）も判断の手がかりにしよう！

覚えておきたい特別なルール

前置詞の後ろは必ず動名詞というルールは絶対に覚えておこう。「I'm looking forward to seeing you.」のtoは前置詞だから、後ろには動名詞のseeingが来るんだ。不定詞のtoと前置詞のtoを見分けるのがポイントだよ。

使役動詞・知覚動詞の後ろでは原形不定詞（toなし）を使う。「My mother made me clean my room.」「I saw him cross the street.」のように、make, have, let（使役）やsee, hear, feel（知覚）の後ではtoをつけないから注意しよう。

テスト前の最終確認として、不定詞は「未来・これから」、動名詞は「過去・習慣・事実」、意味が変わる4つの動詞（remember, forget, try, stop）、前置詞+動名詞、使役・知覚動詞+原形不定詞を必ずチェックしておこう。

💡 ポイント: 前置詞のtoと不定詞のtoの違いを見極められれば、ミスが大幅に減る！
