Essential Spanish Tenses & Expressions
Spanish tenses might seem overwhelming, but they're actually your best mates for expressing yourself clearly. The present tense is perfect for habits - "I usually do something." When you're telling stories about the past, you've got two main options: preterite for completed actions like "Fui" (I went) and imperfect for ongoing past situations with "Cuando era joven" (When I was young).
Future planning becomes dead easy with the near future tense - just use "Voy a" + infinitive for "I'm going to." For more formal future plans, add -é to infinitives. The conditional tense lets you dream big with phrases like "Si tuviera más dinero" (If I had more money).
Perfect tenses show you're getting sophisticated with your Spanish. Use "He hecho" (I have done) for recent actions that still matter now, or pluperfect with "Nunca había probado" (I had never tried) for actions completed before another past event.
Top Tip: Start with present, preterite, and near future tenses - they'll cover 80% of what you need for GCSE level!

Phrases like "tirar la casa por la ventana" (literally "throw the house out the window" but meaning "spare no expense") show you really understand the culture.
