Think about every time you charge your phone or turn on a light - chances are, that energy came from fossil fuels that took millions of years to form underground. Coal, oil, and gas are the big three that power most of our world, but here's the catch: they're slowly running out.
Fossil fuels are brilliant at providing reliable energy with relatively low running costs. They can easily meet our current demand, making them the go-to choice for power companies. However, setting up power plants costs a fortune initially.
The environmental impact is where things get messy. Burning these fuels pumps carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide into our atmosphere, contributing to climate change. Coal mining leaves landscapes scarred, oil spills devastate marine life, and nuclear waste remains dangerously radioactive for thousands of years.
Key Point: Non-renewable resources are reliable and powerful, but they're finite and cause significant environmental damage.
Renewable Energy Resources
Imagine never worrying about running out of energy again - that's the promise of renewable energy. From wind turbines spinning on hillsides to solar panels glinting on rooftops, these technologies harness natural forces that never stop.
Wind power uses turbines with generators inside to convert moving air into electricity. It's completely pollution-free during operation, but turbines can be noisy and stop working when there's no wind or when it's too strong. Solar cells are incredibly reliable in sunny locations, generating electricity directly from sunlight with zero pollution.
Hydroelectric power requires flooding valleys to create dams, providing immediate response to energy demands. Though there's no pollution during operation, the environmental impact of flooding entire ecosystems is massive. The initial costs are enormous, but running costs stay low.
Geothermal energy taps into heat from radioactive decay deep in the Earth, particularly in volcanic areas. It causes little environmental damage but requires specific geological conditions that aren't available everywhere.
Reality Check: Renewable sources are clean and endless, but they're often unreliable and can't always increase output when demand spikes.

This apps acc the goat. I find revision so boring but this app makes it so easy to organize it all and then you can ask the freeeee ai to test yourself so good and you can easily upload your own stuff. highly recommend as someone taking mocks now
