Think about every time you charge your phone or turn on a light - chances are, that energy came from fossil fuels that took millions of years to form underground. Coal, oil, and gas are the big three that power most of our world, but here's the catch they're slowly running out.
Fossil fuels are brilliant at providing reliable energy with relatively low running costs. They can easily meet our current demand, making them the go-to choice for power companies. However, setting up power plants costs a fortune initially.
The environmental impact is where things get messy. Burning these fuels pumps carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide into our atmosphere, contributing to climate change. Coal mining leaves landscapes scarred, oil spills devastate marine life, and nuclear waste remains dangerously radioactive for thousands of years.
