what are self and externally paced skills?

basic- not complicated, simple. complex- difficult, require practice. 

gross- involves large muscle groups and movements. fine- involves precise movements and small muscle groups

specific- state exactly what needs to be done. measurable- clear what success will look like. accepted- decided by all participants. realistic- achievable. time bound- when it will be achieved 

what does smart stand for and mean? for goal setting

what does the basic information processing model look like?

choosing the most appropriate sense/cue/information

the working memory. holds info for a max of 30 seconds

they are compared in order to make a suitable decision

how do the stm and ltm relate to decision memory

instrinsic is from within and extrinsic is from external sources

what is intrinsic and extrinsic feedback?

results is the outcome of the performance. performance is how well they performed.

what is knowledge of results and knowledge of performance

positive is successful aspects and negative is the unsuccessful aspects

beginners- results, extrinsic, positive. elite- performance, intrinsic, negative

which are better for beginners and which are for elite

when a performer can see the skill being performed or practiced.

when the performer is told what they are doing right or wrong and how they should do the skill

when a performer is physically guided or supported

when a piece of equipment or aid is used to help a performer

all for beginner. mainly verbal for elite 

a physical and mental (physiological and psychological) state of alertness/ excitement varying from deep sleep to intense excitement.

as arousal increases, so dois performance until it reaches an optimum point and then we ariusal increases, performance will decrease

what is the inverted u theory of afousal?

different skills require different optimal levels of arousal for performance. gross skills need higher arousal than fine skills. the inverted u can be placed on different points of the graph depending on the skill

why are there variations in arousal for different skills?

mental rehearsal/imagery/visualisation (cognitive) - picturing themself successfully doing or imagining a peaceful scene. Deep breathing (somatic). Self-talk (cognitive) - positively speaking to yourself. 

what techniques can be used to control arousal? 

direct- actual physical contact between performers. inflicts harm. indirect- aggression against an object to scare/ mentally harm

shy, thoughtful, enjoy being alone. individual sports with concentration, precision, fine skills and low arousal

what are the characteristics of an introvert? what sports are they better for?

sociable, aroused by others, talkative, bored when isolated. team sports, fast pace, low concentration, gross skills

what are the characteristics of an extrovert? what sports are they better for?

from within, pride, self-satisfaction, personal achievement 

intrinsic is better as it is more likely to lead to continued effort while performers may get a reliance on extrinsic motivation and forget why they play. 

which is better intrinsic or extrinsic motivation?

tangible rewards- certificates, trophies ect. intangible rewards- praise, feedback, applause ect.
