Basic Geometric Elements
Understanding points, lines, and planes is like learning the alphabet before writing essays. A point is simply a location in space with no size - think of it as a dot on paper. A line extends infinitely in both directions with length but no thickness.
A plane is a flat surface that extends infinitely in all directions, like an endless sheet of paper. These might sound abstract, but they're the building blocks for every shape you'll encounter.
These basic elements combine to create all the complex 3D shapes you'll be measuring and calculating throughout the course.

Understanding Angles
Angles are formed when two rays meet at a common point called the vertex. The initial side is where you start measuring, and the terminal side is where you finish - think of it like the hands of a clock showing different times.
Here's something crucial: angles in standard position have their vertex at the origin with the initial side along the positive x-axis. Counterclockwise rotation gives positive angles, whilst clockwise rotation gives negative angles.
You'll use Greek letters (α, β, θ) alongside English letters to represent angle measures. Don't panic about memorising all the Greek alphabet - you'll pick up the common ones naturally through practice.
