Multiples, Factors and Prime Numbers
Multiples are simply the times tables of any number - dead easy! If you want the first 8 multiples of 13, just work through: 13, 26, 39, 52, 65, 78, 91, 104. You're literally counting in thirteens.
Factors are all the numbers that divide evenly into your chosen number. Here's a brilliant method that never fails: start with 1 and work your way up, finding pairs that multiply together.
For 24, you'd get: 1ร24, 2ร12, 3ร8, 4ร6. So the factors are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24. Stop when you start repeating numbers!
Quick Tip: Always write factors in order from smallest to largest - it makes checking your work much easier.
Prime numbers are the rebels of mathematics - they only divide by 1 and themselves. The first few are: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43. Remember that 1 isn't prime (it's the odd one out), and 2 is the only even prime number.
