KS3 CURRICULUM: MATHEMATICS (YEAR 8) Overview Mathematics is taught in a five year programme of study. Under the each of the six main strands the following topics are included: • Number and ratio - Fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, indices and surds, standard form, decimals, proportion and rates of change. • Algebra - Equations and identities, formulae, sequences, graphs, quadratics, inequalities. • Geometry and measures - Area and volume, transformations, circles, trigonometry, Pythagoras, vectors, constructions. • Statistics and probability- Collecting and displaying data, the probability of events and averages. Further Information The exam board used for Mathematics is Edexcel - http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/qualifications/edexcel-gcses/mathematics2015.html Maths Watch - https://vle.mathswatch.co.uk/vle/ (All students are given individual logins and passwords to support with classwork, homework and revision) A weekly maths homework club (for all students) is held on Wednesdays from 3.10pm - 4.00pm in room A27. Equipment - All students must attend lessons with pens (black and green), pencil, long ruler, rubber, protractor, pair of compasses, scientific calculator and exercise book.
