Complete GCSE Maths Higher Tier Topics Overview
Number and Algebra form the backbone of your GCSE Maths success. The number section kicks off with practical skills like multiplying decimals and estimations, then builds up to more complex concepts like standard form calculations and surds.
Don't let algebra intimidate you - it's just about following patterns! You'll start with collecting like terms and work your way up to solving quadratic equations using multiple methods. The quadratic formula and completing the square are your power tools here.
Trigonometry might seem scary, but it's incredibly useful for real-world problems. Master Pythagoras theorem first, then move on to SOHCAHTOA for finding sides and angles. The sine and cosine rules will help you tackle any triangle problem.
Top Tip: Focus on getting Grade 5 concepts solid before pushing for Grades 6-9 - it's better to be confident with the basics than shaky on everything!
