what was a prevention of disease in the medieval/14th century 

praying, self flagellation to punish yourself, running away and smelling flowers

what was a way of prevention for the black death 

pray to God, bleeding ( but it made it worse), burnt herbs for miasma, cut buboes to drain them, superstition cures- rubbing chicken or magic amulets

few did though it was still widely used as patients understood it

what was some preventions in the industrial period? 

she helped with cleaning and training of nurses, death rate went from 40% to 2% in hospital 

how did Florence nightingale improve hospitals

the modern era ( 1953) by cricket and Watson they found it from using X-rays 

find out what caused hereditary diseases. human genome mapped out by 2000, helps prevention but not treatment (yet)

magic bullet - target specific diseases, led to development of antibiotics like penicillin                                        •Fleming discovered penicillin and chain turned it into an effect treatment                                            •tech, mass production of pills, xray, hypodermic needs                      •NHS and new treatment ( radiotherapy, chemo prosthetics + transplants)
