Nurses
Nurses work across four main areas: adult care, mental health, learning disabilities, and children's services. In GP surgeries, they're incredibly versatile - providing immunisations, health tests, medications, monitoring vital signs, wound care, and patient education.
Their strength lies in regular contact with patients, which helps them understand individual backgrounds, needs, and barriers to health. This ongoing relationship makes them perfect for spotting problems early and providing consistent support.
However, their wide-ranging responsibilities can make it difficult to focus specifically on prevention and behaviour change. They're often juggling multiple urgent tasks simultaneously.
Reality check: Nurses often know patients better than doctors do because they spend more time with them during each visit.
