Language Development Milestones
Language development follows a fairly predictable pattern that's genuinely impressive to watch! At 2-3 years, you start making two-word sentences like "toy gone?" whilst building vocabulary around familiar objects.
By age 3, simple sentences emerge: "I want food!" This quickly develops into the question-asking phase where "What's that?" becomes your favourite phrase. Your knowledge base expands rapidly during this period.
At 4 years old, strangers can understand your sentences, though mistakes like "putted" instead of "put" are completely normal. By age 5, correct grammar becomes standard, and formal language skills continue improving steadily.
The progression continues impressively: 3-year-olds change conversation topics constantly, 4-year-olds hold proper conversations and can argue their point, whilst 5-year-olds enjoy rhyming games and start putting sounds together to create words.
Key Point: By age 6, most children read simple stories with genuine enjoyment - showing how quickly language skills develop!
