What's Actually on Your Exam

The exam splits into three main sections, each testing different aspects of healthcare knowledge. Section A focuses on the people who work in healthcare - their key roles, where they work, and their responsibilities. You'll need to know about social workers, anti-discriminatory practices, and how empowerment works in real situations.

Health and safety is massive here, including risk assessments and how complaints get handled. Safeguarding also appears frequently, so make sure you understand when and how professionals step in to protect vulnerable people.

Section B shifts to the bigger picture - who watches over healthcare settings and keeps standards high. This covers professional bodies, different types of care settings (public, private, voluntary), and how regulation actually works in practice.

Quick Tip: Don't just memorise facts - think about how these connect to real scenarios you might see in questions.

Mastering Different Question Types

2-mark questions are your quick wins - they're just testing if you can recall basic facts. When they ask for "two services" or "two professionals," just list them clearly with a brief explanation of what they do.

4-mark questions step it up with "describe" prompts. Here you need to explain what's happening and sometimes apply it to a scenario. Don't just list - actually describe how services work or what professionals actually do day-to-day.

6-mark questions are all about "explain" - this means linking your knowledge back to specific scenarios. Read the scenario carefully, identify what actions are needed, then explain how your suggested solutions actually address the problem.

8-mark questions are your biggest challenge, usually asking you to discuss advantages and disadvantages. Balance is key here - give 2-3 strong points for each side, always explaining the "why" behind your arguments.

Exam Success: Practice as many past questions as possible - it's genuinely the best way to get comfortable with the question styles and time pressure.
