Getting organised with your GCSE revision doesn't have to be... Show more

Ever feel lost about where to start with revision? This structured approach takes you from zero to exam-ready in five clear stages that actually work.
Stage 1 (Start) is about commitment - timetable your revision time for the week ahead and stick to it. The earlier you begin, the less stressful everything becomes later on.
Stage 2 (Recap) means covering absolutely everything that could appear in your exam at least once. Spend extra time on topics you're shaky on - this foundation makes all the later stages much easier.
Stage 3 (Consolidate) is where you really cement your knowledge using quizzes, the Cornell method, or 'blurting' (writing everything you remember without notes). Find what works for you and doesn't feel like torture!
Top Tip: Use tools like Seneca, Quizlet, and revision guides throughout all stages - they're designed to make your life easier, not harder.

Stage 4 (Apply) is where the magic happens - tackling actual exam questions to test if you really understand the content. If your marks aren't where you want them, it's back to more revision, but now you know exactly what needs work.
Stage 5 (Spaced revision) is your secret weapon for long-term memory. Instead of cramming the night before, do small bits of revision regularly. This builds lasting knowledge that'll actually stick when you're sat in the exam hall.
The beauty of this system is that it works for any subject. Whether you're tackling GCSE French (like our example), maths, or sciences, these stages guide you from overwhelmed to confident.
Remember: Past papers from sites like PMT and social media study accounts are goldmines for Stage 4 practice - use them wisely!

Looking at GCSE AQA French shows how this revision system works in practice. The course covers everything from basic numbers and politeness (Chapter 1) right through to complex topics like social issues and career ambitions.
Personal topics include family, relationships, and free-time activities like music and sports. These often feel easier because you can relate them to your own life - perfect for building confidence early in your revision.
Practical skills cover technology, social media, and describing where you live. These topics frequently appear in speaking and writing exams, so they're worth extra attention during your consolidation stage.
Advanced themes tackle festivals, lifestyle choices, environmental problems, and future study plans. These require more sophisticated vocabulary and grammar structures, making them ideal for Stage 4 exam question practice.
Smart Move: Start with topics you find interesting (like music or technology) to build momentum before tackling trickier themes like environmental issues.

French grammar (Chapter 11) might look terrifying with its 30 different sections, but breaking it down makes it totally manageable. Think of grammar as the toolkit that makes everything else work properly.
Basic structures (11.1-11.10) cover adjectives, pronouns, and conjunctions - the building blocks you'll use in every sentence. Master these first, and the complex stuff becomes much easier to handle.
Verb tenses (11.19-11.30) are where many students struggle, but they're also where you can gain the most marks. Focus on present tense, future tense, and past perfect as these appear constantly in exams.
Advanced grammar like the subjunctive and complex sentence structures might seem impossible now, but by Stage 4 of your revision, you'll be ready to tackle them through exam questions. The key is building up gradually rather than trying to learn everything at once.
Game Changer: Use real exam questions to practice grammar in context rather than just memorising rules - it's far more effective and less boring!
