Ever wondered what makes a restaurant different from a hospital canteen? It's all about providers - the businesses and organisations that offer hospitality services. The industry includes hotels, restaurants, fast food chains, airlines, hospitals, pubs, nightclubs, holiday centres, and visitor attractions.
Each provider offers specific services to meet different needs. Hotels give you accommodation, food, entertainment, and drinks all under one roof. Restaurants focus mainly on food and drink, whilst airlines combine travel with entertainment and refreshments. Even hospitals provide hospitality services through patient meals and accommodation.
The key is understanding that providers can be found everywhere - not just in obvious places like restaurants. You'll find hospitality services in airports, schools, sports centres, and even prisons. This variety makes the industry one of the largest employers in the UK.

The industry is split into two main sectors based on their primary purpose. Commercial sectors exist primarily to make money from hospitality - think restaurants, hotels, and pubs. Their main goal is providing food, drink, or accommodation for profit.

Schools exist to educate students, hospitals to treat patients, and prisons to house inmates - but they all need catering services too. These often use outside catering companies rather than running their own kitchens.
