How to Revise for Yr6 SATS! Hi, my name is Rose and I'm in Yr 7, I did SATS last year (2022) and I have realised that there are quite a few people trying to find out how to revise for Yr6 SATS. I decide to use my knowledge from last year to help some students out so I hope that this is helpful to anyone reading this! Best Revision Strategies: • Flashcards - If you are struggling on specific things, then flashcards are for you. All you need to do is cut up some pieces of paper or card and write a question on one side and the answer on the other. You then make a pile with the question side up and work through them, turning them to read the answer after reading the questions. • SATS Books - Online, you can buy some great SATS books which really help you with all the topics that will come up in the papers. Just make sure you have a timetable planned out for when you will use it. • PowerPoints or Word Doc - You could make ● mini presentations on PowerPoint or Word and write down all the information you will need for SATS. • Writing Down - Think about all the lessons you have done in Yr5 and Yr6, what have you learnt from them...

(English and Maths only)?? Write all this information down on paper and try adding more and more as you remember it. (And the best part is that you can decorate the paper however you want) • Whiteboard - If you have a whiteboard at home, this is your opportunity to use it! Pretend you are teaching the things you don't understand as well to someone or yourself. Take the roll as a teacher and write notes on a whiteboard, and if you have friends over, you can teach eachother things to revise for SATS. How Can I Stay On Task?? • Timetables - Make yourself a timetable of when you will revise. By doing this, you have to stay committed to the timetable and you won't forget to revise. Give Up Time - Give up some of your time after school everyday to revise. I would recommend giving up 20 - 30 mins per day to revise and make sure you stick to it. • Reward Yourself - Everytime you revise each day, come up with a reward system. For example: If I revise tomorrow, then I get to have a bit of chocolate. Or : If I revise tomorrow, then I can have extra time on my electronics. Just make sure that you agree with this with your parents. • Take Breaks - Revising doesn't mean that you have to revise for the whole day without rests. I usually use the strategy of once I have done 30 mins of revision then I can go and have a walk around for 10 mins. Having breaks is a great way to take your mind off of the work for just a little bit of time, but you need to remember to go back and revise something else! ● • Have a Drink and Snacks - Have some snacks and a bottle of water by your desk so that you don't need to wonder around the house half way through revising! No Distractions - Switch your phone off and try to find somewhere, where you won't be disturbed by people. If you get distracted easily then find a place where it is quiet and there is nothing on sight to fiddle with. Top Tips : Don't Stress! - This might sound daft, but you will come across lots of tests and exams in the future. If you stress now, then you will get used to stressing at all the tests you do. It is normal to be worried and nervous, but try to control it. ● Don't Do Too Much Revision The Night Before - This was a great tip that my teachers told. me. You may think that squeezing in some last minute revision the night before SATS will help, but trust me, it really doesn't. The only thing it does is make you feel more anxious then you need to be. Also, if you do lots of revision the night before, you may not be able to get to sleep which won't help with your performance in your tests! I hope this really helped you revise for your SATS!! If you have any questions, then just comment bellow! Good luck with your tests!! Go and Smash It!!
