Question 2: Source Comparison & Question 3: Language Analysis
Question 2 asks you to compare sources using a clear Statement, Quotation, Inference structure - repeat this pattern three times for full marks. Start each paragraph with "In source A and B, the writers describe different ideas about..." then contrast with "In source A... however in source B..."
Your quotations need to be specific and relevant. Follow up with phrases like "this could suggest that..." or "from this we can infer..." to show deeper understanding. The key is showing how each writer evokes different responses from readers.
Question 3 focuses on language techniques and their effects. Begin with "The writer uses technique to show..." then immediately provide your quotation. Explain how specific words like adjectives create meaning - "the adjective '...' connotes an idea of... because..."
Top Tip: Learn these techniques by heart: metaphor, alliteration, repetition, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, sibilance, imagery, personification, zoomorphism, anecdotes, and triplets. You'll need them!
