How I Got a I in English Language Revision strategies, advice and tricks Pe 2 Revision Strategies • Practice papers - with exams being so close, I'm sure your teachers want to do everything they can to help, so take advantage of it! Do practice papers at home and get your teacher to mark them using the 2019 mark scheme, to give you a feel of what you need to work on. Read through past extracts and identify word classes, language devices, etc, and annotate them. You need to trust your own judgement. The beauty of English is that you can say whatever you want as long as you can justify it. Make a point and honour it. More Revision Strategies it is Read model answers - you can find model answers online and read through them. If you can, print them out and highlight them, find the strong points. Pay attention to the шау ordered, what statements are made, which kind of quotes are used, etc. Being able to identify these things means you can use them on your own writing. write down examples of metaphors, similes, alliteration, personification, etc on flashcards, and write how you can identify them on the other. Get someone to quiz you. In an exam, you'll want to try and find examples of these because they are the easiest to...

analyse. Advice Like most subjects, cramming isn't helpful, but I understand how difficult it can be to work, even when you don't want to. Just reading some flashcards is a small success. Every little helps (not sponsored by Tesco). Don't force yourself to do hours upon hours. Sometimes, less is more. Spaced revision and retrieval are super helpful for English language, since there aren't many ways (that find) to revise for it. It's all about knowing what you need to identify - similes, adjectives, etc - and being able to analyse them. I'm making another PowerPoint on one of the ways to improve your analysis of quotes, if you want to check that out. Always "zoom in" on words. Examiners hate long winded quotes. Keep them as short as possible. a For clarification, "zooming in" is taking word or short phrase from a quote and analysing it, rather than using long chunks of text. For example: "I grabbed the water, desperate for something to clutch on to." The adjective "desperate" suggests that the narrator is fearful and panicking because... It's about balance. Some people over explain and some people under explain. Find the middle ground and you will be unstoppable. The most basic, most helpful thing I have ever heard is "use the word because and other conjunctions". Justify what you mean. For example: "being tossed around in the surf like a rag doll." The writer makes the reader feel worried for the protagonist because his life seems to be in imminent danger because he is being "tossed around" and the verb "tossed"... This sounds better than: "the writer makes the reader feel worried for the protagonist because his life is clearly in danger. Well? How do you know that? Everything you say needs sufficient explanation, which is where I think most people go wrong. Tips and Tricks Pe Revise questions three and four on language paper 1. To get good marks on them, you need to know how they work. The main structure for question 3 is "what? How?" What is the focus of the text and how does it interest the reader? Do this x3, for the beginning, middle, and end. In paper 2, highlight any similarities between the two sources and any clear differences, as they will become useful to you. Plan your answer for the question 5s. Even if it isn't marked, if you don't get time to finish, it can be used as a guide for your examiner, and it enables you to jot down ideas and not forget anything important. You are so close to the victory Don't you dare give up now Our MindfulLife.com 20 Hello! Welcome to the end of my PowerPoint! Thank 2 you for taking time out of your day to read it. really appreciate it and hope it helps. Just in case no one has told you today, I'm proud of you. I believe in you and I know you can do it. Keep your head up and keep smiling because you are going to ace this an. My last tip: believe in yourself as much as I believe in you. Which is a lot. <3
