Understanding the Mark Scheme Levels
The marking system rewards thorough knowledge combined with effective application to real business contexts. Level 1 1−2marks responses are just basic recall with weak examples, whilst Level 4 7−10marks answers show sophisticated analysis with strong business context.
To reach Level 3 5−6marks, you need accurate knowledge with developed reasoning chains that clearly show cause and effect. Your assessment should use both quantitative data (numbers, percentages) and qualitative information (opinions, motivations) to support your points.
Level 4 responses stand out because they present balanced, well-contextualised assessments that acknowledge competing arguments. These answers show awareness that different factors matter in different situations and provide a fully supported final judgement.
Top Tip: Always check your answer covers knowledge (2 marks), application (2 marks), analysis (3 marks), and evaluation (3 marks) - that's how the 10 marks are distributed!
The key difference between good and excellent answers is contextualisation - consistently linking your points back to the specific business situation rather than making generic statements.
