Excelling at 3-Mark Explain Questions
Every paper contains six 3-mark explain questions in Section A, making them worth mastering. These questions ask you to explain one impact, method, advantage, or disadvantage - and they need no context.
Use the Point → Explanation → Impact structure. Start with your main point, then explain it using connecting words like "therefore," "this means," "as a result," or "consequently." Finally, show the impact this has.
You need three strands of development throughout your answer. Think of it like building a chain - each part connects to the next, creating a logical flow that takes the examiner on a journey from your initial point to the final impact.
Useful connecting phrases include "this leads to," "this may impact," "for example," and "this means that." These help you build those essential connections between your ideas.
Structure Reminder: If you can't identify three clear development strands in your answer, you're probably not going deep enough.
