Physical Development Changes

Your body goes through massive changes during early childhood, and it's pretty amazing how quickly everything develops! Both boys and girls grow at roughly the same rate between ages 3-5, with steady increases in height and weight becoming the norm.

Bone growth is particularly important during this stage. Your bones don't just get longer - they become much stronger and more rigid too. This means you need plenty of calcium in your diet to support this crucial development.

The combination of growing muscles, developing bones, and increasing brain connections makes movement far more accurate than before. Simple activities like running, jumping, and catching become much easier as your strength improves.

Intellectual Development Changes

The progression continues impressively: 3-year-olds change conversation topics constantly, 4-year-olds hold proper conversations and can argue their point, whilst 5-year-olds enjoy rhyming games and start putting sounds together to create words.

Independence becomes a major goal - reaching that stage where you can care for yourself and make your own decisions. Your emotional wellbeing still depends heavily on secure attachments with caregivers who make you feel safe and content.

During this period, you experience new feelings like love, hate, fear, and jealousy for the first time. Learning how to deal with these emotions takes practice, but it gets easier as your language skills develop.

Social Development

This type of play involves sharing toys, doing activities together, and participating in organised games with shared goals like board games. Through these interactions, you learn what behaviour is considered acceptable in social situations.

These new relationships - both close friendships with other children and more formal relationships with teachers - become incredibly important for your overall development and sense of security.
